Take a look at Kalamos
Sitting in George’s taverna by the beach drinking a cold beer and watching the sun go down over the Ionian sea is one of the quintessential Greek sailing holiday experiences. The main village of Kalamos is a sleepy harbour with a couple of shops and cafes which are all stocked by the ferry which visits daily from the mainland. Port Leone on the south of the island is a must see anchorage, the long since abandoned village offers a fascinating glimpse into the past.
Kalamos
Kalamos is a small, unspoilt Ionian island that lies west of Lefkada. The island is situated at the top of a majestic underwater mountain, covered with lush, green pine forests. From the harbour there is a beautiful sight of fishing boats, traditional houses and turquoise waters. Take a short stroll to discover a little taverna on the beach. The harbour attracts lots of visiting sailing yachts on their yacht charter holidays and George the local ‘harbour master’ will always do his best to get you moored up – he also has a great taverna!
Port Leone, Kalamos
Port Leone (to use it’s Venetian name) or Kefali in Greek is a large bay on the south side of Kalamos island and a ‘must visit place’ if you are in the area on your yacht charter holiday – even if you just have a look around the bay from your yacht. Port Leone is ideal for a lunch time or overnight stop, a swim and a walk ashore to see the beautiful small church which is still in use. The evening is idyllic and a time when you can truly appreciate Port Leone’s unique poignancy.
