A pretty archipelago off the Italian coast between Naples and Rome the Pontine islands are a perfect getaway to an island paradise. The two main inhabited islands are Ponza and Ventotone. Smaller Palmarola, is a little craggy gem, a beautiful nature reserve with tranquil summer anchorages. Ischia is the largest of the islands in the Bay of Naples, with a lovely coastline of colourful villages and the dramatic Aragonese Castle perched on a volcanic rock. Ischia has some of the best café bars, prettiest thermal spas, lazy beaches and cosy harbours. Procida is the smallest island of the three and also the best-kept secret.
